I was born in Guantanamo, Municipality of the old Province of Oriente, in a humble family, under the bosom of my principal educators, my grandparents, uncles and aunts and my parents.

At the age of four I was torn from my father’s arms who was accused of a first degree crime "crime against state powers" being that it was for an attempt on the life of Raul Castro in 1961 while the 26th of June activities were taking place in the province of Santiago de Cuba, in other words to put into action the "Immediate Plan of Action".

He was sentenced to 20 years of prison. He is given conditional freedom in 1970 and in that same year he is again incarcerated for the crime of harm "against the integrity and stability of the Nation". Four years later he died in Boniato Prison at the age of 35 as a result of a malignant tumor caused by the beatings which he was given by the henchmen of the Castro dictatorship in the prison.

As I consquence, my childhood and teenage years were unhappy ones, having to see my father behind bars, and on occasions I was only able to see his hands. I grew up hating and despising the government, feeling a profound resentment for the government that tore a part of my life from me. Nevertheless, I completed my studies until I graduated in Accounting.

I began to work when I was 18 in the "Combinado Poligrafico" in Guantanamo for 7 consecutive years until in a "verification" it was noted who my father was. In 1982 I began to work in the "Empresa Operadora de Azucar" (sugar factory) until 1984 when the same thing happened.

From 1985 to 1990 I worked in the Provincial Pediatric Hospital Pedro A. Perez, where coincidentally I was recognized by Captan Luis Corona of the Department of State Security who in a meeting of the administration of the hospital proposed that they should thoroughly analyze me and separate me as I am the son of a contra-revolutionist and that I should not continue working in the center.

Because of this we moved towards the Province of Holguin to see if these henchmen would forget me. There I worked in the "Banco Popular de Ahorro" (bank) for approximately 8 years. I returned to the city of my birth where I began to work in the Department of Hygiene and was later transferred to the Pediatrics Specialties Hospital where I was thrown out of under Resolution 68/98 for being considered a threat to the revolution.

In January 1999 my wife and I were sentenced under Case No. 21/99 for the crime of association, meetings and illegal manifestations.

From 1961 my family has been harassed by the repressive units at the service of the Castro dictatorship, first prison and the assassination of my father, Emilio Quintana Gonzalez, later me, my wife and my children, whom are being constantly threatened by telephone telling them that the same thing that happened to my father will happen to me.

I am a member of the Club of Political Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners in this city. Secretary of Public Relations and Religious Affairs of the Guanantanamo Delegation of the "Partido 30 de Noviembre ‘Frank Pais’" the same movement to which my father was a member. I am the Director of the Center of Information regarding Democracy and by my decision of the "Partido y Ejecutivo del 30 de Noviembre" carries my father’s name: "Emilio Quintana Gonzalez".
